In this module, we will discuss language learning styles and techniques, giving special attention to LAMP (Language Acquisition Made Practical) and the Growing Participator Approach (GPA) method developed by Greg Thompson. We will consider basic anthropological principles that enhance effective cross-cultural communication. We will learn about the three major worldviews in the world: guilt/innocence, shame/honor, and fear/power, and the importance of sharing the gospel and providing discipleship in ways that speak to a person's worldview. Finally, we will seek to understand the important debate of contextualization versus syncretism; i.e., how to share the gospel in culturally-relevant ways without interfering with the integrity of our message.
